Finger Neck Portage

This short portage (550m) is well worth doing as it cuts out an enormous bend in the river and avoids the sneaky Finger Neck Rapid. During the Dusi Canoe Marathon there is a welcome water table stationed here as well.

Finger Neck Portage has two take out options.

The first is an easy take out and avoids the shallow rocky approach rapid. The downside is that you have an extra 250m to portage making it 700m in total.

The second take-out area is steep and not easy, however it can be faster depending on boat traffic and your running ability. Look out for a suitable ledge to pull up to just before Finger Neck Rapid.
